Every powered or battery product we sell is sourced from an Australian supplier who is registered as the responsible supplier for that item. We hold their registration number and test reports on file before the product goes on sale, and we will provide them on request.
Why this matters more than it sounds
Christmas novelty with lights and batteries is the most heavily enforced product category in Australian consumer law. The ACCC requires a business to hold test reports demonstrating compliance before supply, and a visual inspection is not sufficient. Penalties have run to millions of dollars against retailers who supplied non-compliant novelty items. We would rather not stock a product than stock one we cannot evidence.
Mains powered items
Christmas lights and inflatables that plug into a power point are in-scope electrical equipment under the Electrical Equipment Safety System. As a reseller we are a second or subsequent supplier, which means our obligation is to source only from a responsible supplier registered on the EESS national database, to confirm the equipment is registered, and to confirm it carries the Regulatory Compliance Mark. We do all three before a product is listed.
Every mains-powered product on this site carries an Australian plug and an RCM mark. If an item arrives without one, stop using it and contact us.
Batteries, including solar
Solar and battery decorations sit below 50V AC and 120V DC, so they fall outside the EESS, but the mandatory button battery standards still apply and so does AS/NZS 3820. We hold the supplier's battery test report for every item containing a cell.
Button batteries are a serious swallowing hazard for small children. Keep spare and used batteries out of reach. If you suspect a child has swallowed one, go to an emergency department immediately or call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26. Do not wait for symptoms.
Indoor and outdoor ratings
Items described as outdoor rated are rated for outdoor use. Items not described that way are for indoor use only, and running an indoor-rated light outside in a Queensland summer storm is the fastest way to destroy it and create a hazard.
Personalised and fabric items
Printed cotton, hessian, timber and ceramic products contain no electrical components and no batteries. Ceramic ornaments can break if dropped and are not toys. Drawcords on sacks and bags are a strangulation risk for infants, so sacks are not intended for use in a cot or as bedding.
Reporting a safety concern
Email hello@santasvault.com.au with the product, your order number and a photo. We take a safety report seriously and act on it the same day, including notifying the supplier and removing the product from sale while we investigate.
